Films are a powerful medium for representing the diversity of the human experience. When we see someone on screen that looks like us, it can be a deeply affirming experience and remind you that your story matters too! The Latino/a voice has been one of the most underrepresented voices in film – so many opportunities exist with this theme. That is why Tú Cuentas Cine Youth Fest wants to give emerging filmmakers the opportunity this year to REPRESENT, through their films, in the following 5 categories:
Animation and Experimental:
Animated shorts or experimental films that tell stories in new ways, all sparked by the awesome and colorful traditions of Latino culture.
Documentary Shorts:
True stories or investigative pieces that shed light on issues important to the younger generation.
Identity and Self-Discovery:
Films that deal with themes of personal growth, identity formation, and the journey to self-discovery.
Mental Health Awareness:
Films that aim to destigmatize mental health issues among youth.
Social media and Digital Life:
Films that explore the impact of social media and digital technology on youth culture and personal relationships
